On Monday, April 24, India's best cricketer Sachin Tendulkar turned 50. Tendulkar wanted to be the first fast bowler after he enthralled cricket fans worldwide with his batting. He also went to the MRF Pace Foundation for this, however he was unable to realise his desire. Tendulkar excelled as a batsman but was unable to develop into a fast bowler.
In 1987, Tendulkar visited the MRF Pace Foundation. Fast bowler Dennis Lillee, a senior Australian, was the director at the time. He advised Sachin to stop bowling fast. Tendulkar was instructed by Lilly to focus on his batting rather than his bowling. Regarding this, Lillee previously remarked that he was quite ashamed of his decision to reject Sachin's bowling.
The batting practise impressed Lily.
Sachin returned to the MRF Pace Foundation at the age of 15. Then his batting caught Lilly off guard. By putting two straight fours into the nets, he had dazzled Lillee. When Lilly recalled the incident, she recalled asking head coach TA Shekhar, "Who is this boy? " as Sachin was playing on 48 off 12 balls. Shekhar informed me that you were the one who wanted to be a fast bowler but you rejected his request.
Who said what Lily?
He had humorously remarked, "I had done cricket and it was a good thing by dismissing Sachin," when he departed from the Lilly MRF Pace Foundation after 25 years of service. I had helped the cricket. I'll never forget what happened there. I predicted that he would one day rank among the finest players even before he made his international debut.
